What is netnography?

The Social Web has revolutionized public communication. Netnography, Web-Monitoring, Sentiment Analysis, Panel-Communities are concepts of current online-research. The success of the participative Social Web has softend the once rigid boundaries between producers and consumers. What happens in the internet is not a virtual counter, but just as real as what we see with the eyes – it’s social life, where informations, beliefs, impressions are shared, which have a considerable effect on cultural, economic and political reality. or businesses, institutions and association it becomes increasingly important to listen to the social web sphere and gain knowledge about what is beeing said about the own products, services and brands.

Web-Monitoring means the systematic, software-based observance and analysis of public digital communication. Netnography goes a step further and includes more methods. The interest is manifold: Trends and recognizable Insights in consumer culture and society are visible, CoCreation includes consumers into product engineering.

Who should participate?

Anybody who does research in netnography or in another approach in the
internet – and those who want to discover a recent research approach (which is not yet widespread in the German speaking countries). Anybody interested from the areas of online research and online marketing, market – and social research, qualitative methods, sociology, ethnography, cultural studies, media and communication – and of course all enthusiastic users of the Social Web.
